Euro 2008 - Eccentric Domenech's indecent proposal
Eurosport - Wed, 18 Jun 11:54:00 2008
France coach
Raymond Domenech proposed to partner Estelle Denis moments after seeing his side crash out of
Euro 2008.

Domenech asked for his girlfriend's hand in marriage as he was being interviewed on French television station M6 - the channel Denis works for - after his team's 2-0 loss to Italy.
"The only thing I am thinking of now is getting married to Estelle. I am asking her for her hand in marriage," said the 56-year-old on live television.
When asked why he chose that particular moment to propose, Domenech replied: "It was just a thought. Everyone was so sad and I thought to myself, life has its beautiful moments.
"You have to tell people you love them. In such difficult moments, you have to go with what's important. I wanted to show some emotion."
It is not the first time the former international defender has defied received wisdom during his tenure with Les Blues.
In 2005, Domenech delayed naming his goalkeeper for a friendly clash with Costa Rica as a result of an astrological hunch.
"I consulted the stars," he said. "It was not the right day."
The former Lyon and Paris St Germain player has said in the past he does not have faith in players born under the Scorpio sign, and steers clear of Leos - who he says have a penchant to be show-offs.
He also became embroiled in a bizarre exchange with then
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho over the services of
Claude Makelele during qualification for Euro 2008.
Domenech threatened the midfielder - who had previously announced his international retirement - with a two-game ban if he refused to report for duty, prompting Mourinho to accuse him of treating Makelele "like a slave".
Add to that his strange touchline gesticulations, which have included the mimed charades sign for a film - used to suggest players were acting theatrically - and it's easy to see why Domenech is seen as arguably the most eccentric (soon-to-be-ex-
)
coach on the international stage.
